Meet the Staff of NMCA!
While able to teach or work in a variety of different venues, the teachers and staff of NMCA have chosen to give sacrificially of themselves to educating the next generation of children, according to Biblical principles and quality academics.
Pastor Rusty Chatfield operates as the school's administrator, while Mrs. Annette Thompson serves as the principal for the school. Mrs. Thompson is assisted by Mr. Andrew Vandeyacht, who serves as the assistant principal of the school.

Elementary Teachers
Pre-School & K-5
Becky Flegal
Becky Flegal was raised in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada in a loving Christian family. She is the youngest of four children. She attended Bob Jones University majoring in Elementary Education. She met her husband, Matt while visiting family in PA. They have been married for 14 years and have three wonderful children. She has spent the last nine years homeschooling their three children- passing on to each of them hers and Matt's love of reading! Her husband is an intern pastor at North Country Baptist Church in Millersburg where they love serving the Lord together as a family.
Grades 1st-3rd
Mrs. Annette Thompson
Mrs. Thompson grew up in Sunfield, Michigan, and then attended college at Michigan State University where she graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. With a love for teaching, she went on to earn an Early Childhood Specialist Degree with a ZA endorsement from Central Michigan University. She previously taught school at the Mackinac Island Public School, and at Faith Christian School in Lake Odessa. Annette Thompson has been an elementary school teacher at NMCA since 2001. While here, she has taught 1st-3rd grade, and she has been the yearbook adviser/producer since 2006.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs Thompson serves as the school's principal.
Grades 4th-6th
Mrs. Peggy MacCurdy
Peggy MacCurdy was raised in South Bend, Indiana, and later moved to Cleveland, Ohio. She has spent her entire life attending or teaching in Christian Schools. She graduated from Hyles Anderson College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She has spent many years teaching in the classroom or homeschooling her four children. Peggy will be teaching the most of the classes for 4th-6th graders, as well as, teaching 9th-12th grade English.
Mr. Matthew Quick
Mr. Matthew Quick was born in Lansing in 1992, and grew up through his pre teen years in the Flint area in Burton, Michigan. After moving to Lapeer, Michigan, and after his teen years, the Lord led him to Fairhaven Baptist College to study for full-time ministry. In 2014 he graduated from Fairhaven Baptist College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Music, and is continuing his education, pursuing a Master of Arts in Bible.
After living in Northern Michigan in the Mackinaw City area for three years, he is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach PE Classes for the Elementary School, as well as serve as a classroom aide in the elementary.

Secondary Level Teachers
Pastor Rusty Chatfield
Pastor Rusty Chatfield was ordained and became pastor of Pellston Bible Church (now called Northern Michigan Baptist Bible Church) in 1983, and he has faithfully served this church body ever since. He is happily married to his wife Betty, and they have seven children together.
Pastor Chatfield graduated from Tennessee Temple University in 1979 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Bible, and in 1988 he earned his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University in History.
Pastor Chatfield serves as the Superintendent, and History teacher for Northern Michigan Christian Academy.
Mr. Andrew Vandeyacht
Mr. Vandeyacht is a K-12 NMCA alum. After graduating from NMCA, he received an Associate of Applied Science degree at North Central Michigan College. After which, he went on to receive Bachelor of Science in Biology: Pre-Med with a minor in Criminal Justice at Maranatha Baptist University.
After spending 3 years in the field of food analysis, Mr. Vandeyacht will be acting as the Assistant Principal and teaching Junior High English, Junior High Science, Biology, and Creationism
Mr. Robert Taylor
Mr. Robert Taylor is an NMCA alumnus and is excited that the Lord has lead him and his wife back to Northern Michigan. After graduating from NMCA, Mr. Taylor attended Maranatha Baptist University and then moved to Pekin, IL. Mr. Taylor enjoyed serving in the bus and children’s ministries at Faith Baptist Church and coaching soccer and basketball at Faith Baptist Christian School.
This year at NMCA, Mr. Taylor will be serving as athletic director and will additionally be teaching intermediate math, pre-algebra, consumers math, and algebra 2.
Mrs. Trisha Taylor
Mrs. Trisha Taylor will be teaching music education and choir at NMCA this year. Raised in Albiene, KS, she attended college in Wisconsin at Maranatha Baptist University. She graduated from Maranatha in 2016 with majors in both Math Education and Music.
Upon graduation, Mrs Taylor moved to Pekin, IL to teach high school math, band, choir and general music lessons at Faith Baptist Christian School. In Pekin, she met her husband Robert and they were married in 2018.
Mrs Taylor will be preparing our students for the Christmas and Spring Programs and teaching choir year-round. She also offered private music lessons at NMCA, when requested by the parents.
Secondary Bible Classes are taught by local area pastors. During the 2022-2023 school year, Secondary Bible Classes will be taught by Pastor James Brabson and Pastor Mark Drinkall.
